4 year suspension from competitions for involvement in illegal activities related to steroids

Carl Fletcher, a shot-putter from Britain, can’t participate in competitions 4 years. The ban was claimed by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) because he was accused in trafficking anabolic steroids. Carl Fletcher sold more than 15 types of steroids. It was determined that HGH, testosterone and Trenbolone were among the products which had been distributed by this famous sportsman. The Liverpool Crown Court sentenced this sportsman to 9 months in jail.
It is interesting to note that the shot-putter from Britain never tested positive for any steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. Don’t you think that it is strange? What could it mean? One may suppose that methods applied by anti-doping agencies are not good enough to catch consumers of steroids that take part in international sport competitions.
The WADA and the UKAD put significant efforts to make sports free of cheating and intake of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. These agencies also collaborate with law enforcement agencies in order to achieve the needed effects.
The UKAD claimed that anti-doping officials would be allowed to supply information about names of athletes that utilized anabolic steroids.
This case displayed that the collaboration between the UKAD and law enforcement benefits a lot. It proved that law enforcement agencies may help greatly to detect the athletes that use anabolic steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. It is difficult to overrate the role of these agencies in catching of cheaters in sports. Andy Parkinson, the CEO of the UKAD, assures that if law enforcement organizations collaborate with the UKAD, the results will be excellent.
The Merseyside Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) investigated a certain case connected with intake of steroids by officers at the St. Helens Basic Command Unit. It was found out that Fletcher had been involved in the illegal activity led by his uncle and cousin. This caused Fletcher’s suspension from competitions till November 8, 2015.
