The laws which ban intake of anabolic steroids have appeared because of certain conditions. They turned out to be responses to widespread intake of steroids in competitive sports. Anti-Doping Agencies hoped that ban of steroids would keep professional sportspersons far from usage of illegal products. But criminalization of steroids influenced on intake of steroids by competitive sportspeople slightly.
The steroid laws commonly do not prosecute athletes who use illegal preparations. On the contrary, non-competitive athletes and recreational bodybuilders are usually targets of the steroid laws. They suffer due to results of breaking these laws.
This is not only one’s opinion. Real facts display it. Let think: who is sentenced to jail because of selling steroids? For example, Ashley Dewayne Rivers of Alabama was sentenced to 5 months in jail because he had sold about $2000 worth of steroids to a doctor. Actually, this person wasn’t the target of a steroid investigation. He only turned out to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The estranged wife of this doctor said to federal investigators that her husband was implicated in operations of black steroid market. Thus, the statement of this woman led to the situation, when the health care provider was investigated.
Actually, Ashley Rivers was a dealer of steroids for short time. This person provided these medicines to his friends of his gym. James Robinson, the defense attorney for Ashley Rivers, claimed that his client had recognized his guilty totally and taken the whole responsibility for his illegal operations. The attorney noticed that Rivers was a moral man. However he broke the steroid laws, he recognized the dangers and admitted to his guilty.
The attorney for Rivers Ashley asked the judge to sentence Rivers Ashley only to probation. Ashley Rivers cared about his wheelchair-bound wife, 2 adopted children and 3 children of his disabled brother. Moreover, this man gave about 40, 000 dollars for individuals that lost their homes because of tornadoes. It would be better, if Rivers Ashley were sentenced to probation. Rivers Ashley would continue his work for his family and other persons.
But Christopher Brinson, the Assistant U. S. Attorney, rejected the request of James Robinson. He claimed that this man committed a serious crime and he has to serve time in jail. However the judge was inclined to agree with the request of the defense attorney James Robinson at the beginning, finally he made the decision to agree with the Assistant U.S. Attorney and sentenced Rivers to 5 months in jail.
You may see that steroid laws don’t influence on professional sportspeople.
